Role Description

Drilling Engineer - Level 4


Purpose and Scope

Coordinates and controls all drilling and workover engineering activities on assigned rigs. Includes the preparation of drilling proposals, drilling and workover programs and the provision of technical expertise to optimize drilling operations and ensure their completion within the approved budget. Participates in tender preparation, contractors' pre-qualification and the preparation of the annual operating and capital budget.

Visits drilling/workover rig sites regularly and acts as operation focal point between Rig-site & Main office.  Ensures coordination and integration within the Team & with the rest of organization.


Accountabilities Key Performance Indicators
 
• Plans, checks and recommends for approval Drilling/Workover programs and testing procedures for wells in assigned area in accordance with the well objectives, technical requirements and engineering standards. • Optimum drilling & Workover operations.
• Efficient specifications and control of materials and equipment.
• Coordination of activities with concerned staff in PDD, Operations and contractor.
 
• Monitors closely and analyzes the work progress during drilling, well completion and workover.  Gives necessary instructions and advice on steps and measures to be taken to resolve problems and avoid delays in work schedule. • Sound recommendation of changes to procedures.
• Requirements and well objectives are achieved.
• Sound technical assistance to drilling and workover operations.
 
• Supervises the moving of rigs schedule on and off well locations.  Includes liaising with contractor to ensure maximum safety and accurate positioning of rig on new location. • Equipment availability for planned wells.
• Rescheduling of wells for optimization purposes.
• Optimum rig moves.
 
• Evaluates the drilling efficiency during each stage and analyzes causes of problems to avoid such occurrences in future. • Close monitoring of daily progress
 
• Ensures optimum use of tools, equipment and chemicals  by determining requirements and arranging for optimization studies.  • Input to designs and specifications of drilling/ workover tools and equipment.
 
• Participates in the preparation of technical input for tender documents and contractors' pre-qualifications. • Input and evaluation of drilling/workover tenders as per Our Clients standard requirement.
 
• Performs study on the operational and testing procedures in order to optimize the cost and time. • Acceptability and implementation of study recommended changes in operations.
 
• Assists Team Leader in administering a minimum of two contracts as assigned valued at + $10 million. • Assigned contracts are maintained in line with company procedures.
• Verification of contractors’ invoices.
 
• Coordinates the preparation of final well drilling and workover reports. Monitors daily the collection of relevant data contained in the drilling report. Prepares regular drilling and wokover engineering activity reports as required. • Information in the report provides complete record of rig activities from the spudding operation to rig release, and that it can be used for future diagnosis and optimization study work.
 
 
Drilling Engineer - Level 4


• Prepares special technical reports on existing or future projects, i.e., use of fiberglass casing in observation wells.  • Risk assessments HAZOP are made for all new tools and equipment & trails.
 
• Prepares the Team’s input to the Division’s Business Plan including costs for each well/type based on planned drilling and the workover schedules as advised by PDD. • Sound recommendation for business plan well duration and cost of different well types
 
• Verifies well expenditure proposals and monitors variance from plans.  Provides budget estimates for drilling/workover operations. • Up-to-date record of actual and projected expenditure and initiates actions required to ensure adherence to company procedures.
 
• Keeps abreast of technological development in the field of drilling engineering in the oil/ production industry and recommends their adoption by Our Client. • Attends conferences, seminars, reviews technical periodicals.
• Draws on the experience of other oil companies.
• Aware of latest drilling technologies.
 
• Participates in the training and development of assigned UAE national employees. Administer on the job training/familiarization programs and reports on progress. • O-J-T programs are developed for new employees.
• Timely and accurate reporting on progress.
 
• Knows the Company health, safety and environmental policy, procedures, regulations and objectives as they relate to his area of responsibility, and ensures that they are effectively implemented in his domain. • Safe working at all times. Zero LTI
• Effective accident investigation/ follow up.
• Effective monitoring/review of contractors and service companies work practices.
• Effective implementation of SMS plan.
 

Minimum Requirements


knowledge 
Experience
 

B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering, plus relevant advanced courses in Drilling/Completion/Directional Drilling and Blow Out prevention methods, problem solving decision making & well control certification.
 
10 years' drilling/workover engineering experience with specific emphasis on drilling technology and blow out prevention techniques and methods.
